Lewiston, Maine - Oxford Networks announced that it will once again be collecting food in support of the United Way Pantry Project. Each of the company’s three offices - Lewiston, Bangor and Norway - will be accepting donations through the end of the month. Last year the company donated over 700 pounds of food to the Good Shepherd Food Bank and this year they hope to exceed that amount.
According to Julia Munsey, Oxford Networks marketing and public relations specialist, employees, customers and community members are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items to any of its locations to support the project.
“The Pantry Project is a great initiative from the United Way and we are excited to be a part of it. Our employees have really rallied around the project setting up the Pantry Project shelves and boxes and donating food items. We are looking forward to donating even more food this year,” said Munsey.
Every Wednesday in February employees will be donating two non-perishable food items and wearing jeans in support of the project. According to Joleen Bedard, executive director of the United Way of Androscoggin County, the support from businesses and community members is critical to the success of this project.
“We hear from many of our agencies about the food instability issue for families in Maine. Daycare facilities are particularly aware of the issue with little ones who may get underfed during the weekend as families struggle to pay bills in the middle of winter. The United Way Pantry Project works to fill the critical need that the food banks and pantries have this time of year,” said Bedard.
