  History

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in Boston in 1876.   By 1884 long distance phone service had been established in Boston and New York City.  Only nine years later, in 1893, Oxford Networks innovative founder Alva Andrews ordered the necessary supplies – copper wire, poles and two hand-crank phones – to establish phone service between his family business in South Woodstock, Maine and the West Paris Railroad Station.  The rest as they say is history.

Officially incorporated as Oxford Telephone and Telegraph in 1900, Oxford Networks has grown from an independent local telephone company to a growing statewide telecommunications provider.  As technology has evolved, so has Oxford Networks.  Growing strong with 125 employees and cutting edge technology, Oxford Networks is proud of its Maine heritage and commitment to serving the people and many businesses of the state of Maine.

Innovation still runs deep at Oxford Networks.  That Yankee ingenuity and resourcefulness that inspired Alva Andrews is still a big part of the company today.   In fact, Alva Andrews’ great, great grandson Deven Andrews makes sure of it.  He has been a valued part of the company since 1977.
